I'm not sure what to think about the new Volt. I really liked the old volt, but the insanely-leaned-forward stubby-hood design of this seems... a bit off. Then half of me is going "IT LOOKS SO EUROPEAN I LOVE IT!" Damn you Chevy let me make up my mind ;_;

The problem is that the design is conflicted. In the front you see a lot of styling and a barftastic amount of chrome. Then on the sides, there's nothing.

"IT LOOKS SO EUROPEAN I LOVE IT!"
They're wasting their time then because it's being withdrawn from Europe!

Ampera didn't do well either.

Agreed, I see a lot of conflict in the nose. Maybe it looks better in person. I see a lot of shadows in that photo that imply a different appearance when up close.

I really want to like it, but so far I'm not. And the wheels really turn me off for some reason.
I hope the drivetrain improvements make up for it!

when you design with a wind tunnel this is what you get. Nothing wrong but this design has purpose.

The Ampera looked so much better.

I was just telling a coworker this morning that we're going to start seeing a lot of similarities in shapes between OEMs trying to lower Cd to improve FE, Chrysler being the huge frontal area outlier because of their emphasis on underbody shields.

I like the old design more than than the new. Old Volt looked different and mostly good. (Mostly because the rear end looked like it was hastily sketched in 2 minutes before someone's workday ended.) Whereas new Volt just looks generic small-ish sedan.

I agree. The old Volt screamed "LOOK AT ME I'M DIFFERENT AND UNIQUE!" whereas this, while not a *bad* looking car, just looks too normal. Too pedestrian. Too not-electric.
It's been proven in the past with hybrids that people don't want an eco car that doesn't look like an eco car, so I'm not sure why GM went with this design.

I agree. The Ampera, even if it was just a Volt with runny mascera, was a sexy beast.

I was no big fan of the way the old Volt looked, but at least it was distinctive. If I didn't know any better, I'd have told you this was the new Kia Rio.

that's exactly what I thought

It looks like a car. I don't mean that in a good or bad way. It's generic, which is fine. I'd buy one

It's just disappointing to me seeing how radical the original Volt concept and, to a somewhat lesser extent, the finished product was. This is just... "car". Nothing special. Just car. But it's a special car, and I feel the bodywork doesn't do it justice.

Exaclty what I was thinking. The Volt was always in my mind "the manly Prius" It had good looks, it was a car you could be seen in, and a car I enjoyed seeing.
This just looks... Asian. Which for the Volt, who's main competitor is the Prius, may not be a good thing.
